People Get Where They Want To Go Because They Know Where They Want To Go
People get where they want to go because they know where they want to go. Read that again.
Managers and entrepreneurs have at least one thing in common: they both benefit from having a clear vision for the future.
Knowing where you want to go gives you the opportunity to take the steps which will bring you there. And with a clear vision for the future you can inspire and motivate the people around you to walk and work alongside of you.
And it all starts with the question: What is it that you really want?
This is one of the first questions I ask the managers and entrepreneurs that I coach and work with. I notice that this seemingly simple question is pretty hard to answer. Especially in concrete tangible (business) results, behavior, and envisioned impact.
A lot of managers, entrepreneurs – and actually a lot of other people as well – , are driven by what they think they should do by long standing ideas in their minds, or because they see other people doing it too. A lot of assumptions and most often good intentions.
But when clarity is lacking, chaos can flourish, both in the inside as the outside world.
As soon as you gain clarity, everything starts to clear up. Not only your vision, but also your strategy. The best fitted route to get you to your destiny will become more and more visible and logical. Every next step will bring you closer to your envisioned future.
And this does not mean that the path will be smooth and without challenges. But you will recognize them for what they are and work your way around (or through) them. And the people by your side, your stamina and resilience will help you along the way.
I decided a couple of months ago that I wanted to work in Cape Town with managers and entrepreneurs on their leadership and how to take the best care of themselves to bring their dreamed of future into reality. I took the steps. I encountered the bumps and challenges along the way. It was tough from time to time.
This week my dream will come to life: I am going to Cape Town to work with managers and female entrepreneurs during two retreats at an amazing estate, surrounded by all the beauty that nature has to offer. My vision is about to pop into reality! I am excited and thrilled and can’t wait to go. The energy is high and contagious.
And it makes me so curious: Where would you like to go to? What is your vision on your personal and professional future?
