Somewhere Along the Way, You Started Believing That Leadership Only Shows Itself In Action
In my work with senior leaders, I see it again and again. They know that rest and reflection matter. They’re not short on insight or intellect when it comes to this.
They give themselves permission in theory, but can they actually feel it? Can you actually feel and do it in the middle of all that’s going on?
What will people think if you step back for a moment? If you go quiet? If you pause?
And because the responsibility is so real, rest easily starts to feel like something you have to earn. Or something you simply can’t afford.
Your team is working hard. Calendars are packed. And there’s always something that shouts louder.
You treat rest like a reward for effort. Like a pause between two episodes of real productivity.
But what if rest isn’t a reward, but a requirement? Not to withdraw, but to realign. Not because you’re tired, but because you have direction to give.
Leadership isn’t only shaped in action. It takes form in space and reflection. In the moments when you feel again and, on a deeper level, remember which way you want to go and what it will take.
Taking rest isn’t an escape. It’s a responsibility you carry as a leader.
It forms the foundation for clarity, direction and decisive choices.
